The weather behaved and the crowds arrived – and the exhibitors were thrilled with the turnout. But what really impressed them was how engaged and informed their audience was, and the sophistication of the questions they received in both the presentations and at their displays.
The Quadra Sustainable Energy Fair was a big success thanks to the support of many volunteers and businesses, and of course all the people who came from Quadra and Vancouver Island. In particular, Sierra Quadra and the Fair Committee are grateful to the many bakers and kitchen volunteers – all that wonderful baking was sold by the end of the day! As well, a team of volunteers helped set up for the fair and worked throughout the day to keep everything running smoothly. Home Schoolers made the terrific banner. BC Hydro, Energy Alternatives and New Society Publishers provided the door prizes.
Quadra businesses are always so supportive of community events. Our thanks go to James Pottery, Castle Printing, The Discovery Islander and Heriot Bay Tru-Value Foods (Love that Spirit Board!) The Hungry Eye and thegumboot.ca gave our event great exposure. Spirit of the West and Quadra Island Kayaks provided the vans and drivers for the ferry shuttles. The program, logo, poster and exhibitor application forms were designed by Robyn Budd of Moondog Consulting, and Jim Abram and the Regional District supported the Fair with a grant-in-aid. Thank you all for you support – it made this event a wonderful success.

Fair Feedback
We would love to hear from you. Some of the comments on the Fair Feedback forms suggested getting the Rainwater Connection folks back; a talk on solar and wind power; greywater recycling (that presentation was cancelled) and more detailed information on making one’s home more energy efficient. We will gladly try getting any of the presenters back for a longer talk or workshop. Give us your ideas by logging onto www.thegumboot.ca and going to the Sustainable Energy Fair section. Also let us know if you would like the talks to be scheduled during the day or in the evening.
