Monday, April 11th, 7pm at the Community Centre, the Garden Club holds the final meeting of our Spring session. The guest speaker will be local horticulturalist and gentleman farmer, Ryan Nassichuk. Ryan and his life-partner Jessica have farmed a wide variety of vegetables on the south end of Quadra, since 2011. Ryan also works off the farm in a variety of horticultural contexts, including garden maintenance, design, consulting, soil-testing and soil test interpretation.
We are all looking forward to his talk on winter vegetables and how to work with the seasons to put food on your table all year round. Learn how to grow a wide assortment of winter vegetables by choosing appropriate varieties, understanding the importance of timing, and implementing simple protective measures against the rain and cold. This talk is sure to inspire you to grow and harvest a bounty of vibrant vegetables through the depths of our rainy coastal winters.
Today the Service Berry trees are about to explode into bloom. Can you smell the large leaf Maples opening their flowers? Bring along some Spring flowers for the show and tell table. Drop-ins welcome $3 at the door or buy an annual membership.
The Garden Club’s annual plant sale is on Saturday April 16th at the Community Centre. Doors open at 11:30 (no early birds please). Join us for this annual event and find, with help from local gardeners, some tried and true, inexpensive plants for your garden.
