Needle Arts Fall Fair 2016
Greetings to all interested in the Needle Arts section of the Fall Fair, September 11, 2016. Thank you to our kind sponsors – Adelia Arts and Hope Springs Studios.
When reviewing the Fair Fliers, you may have noticed some changes from the past with respect to the entry classes. We have trimmed them down and clarified many.
One very welcome new addition is Class 13 – a quilt made by two or more people. Now all those collaborative quilters can show off their beautiful work!
Although items must be completed within the last calendar year to be considered by the judges for an award (don’t worry if you started that sweater in 1997, you FINISHED it NOW!), we are warmly welcoming all items for exhibit only that may have been finished at any time. This allows us to revel in the artistry and workmanship of historic items as well as work of new Quadra Islanders who want to share older but unseen items. Do you have Aunt Tillies 19th Century Redwork Quilt? WE WANT TO SEE IT! If you have a secure way of exhibiting delicate and precious items such as this, we would greatly appreciate your assistance during set-up on September 10th.
With so many talented people on Quadra, we are sure to have a great section of the Fair. Let’s make it ROCK!
A gentle reminder to reassure the sensitive: items are judged against criteria and not against each other. Likewise, the sole item in a Class may not medal automatically for the same reason. While it may feel like a competition, that against which you compete is an ephemeral ideal, not against your friends. Young people (under 17) are held to a different set of criteria so please keep this in mind as well. We love and appreciate our judges for the very difficult work they do!
A final note: There was a typo or two in the first handout that has been corrected by our Indoor Supervisor (Needle Arts is in fact indoors on the stage of the QICC): Quilting is the ONLY Needle Arts Peoples’ Choice Award from which they may select items from Classes 10 through 13.
