In November 2016, two Quadra artists, John Schevers and Gordon James, travelled to the tiny fishing village of Pulau Ketam (Crab Island), Malaysia to attend the Art Ketam International Festival. Over the next two weeks the two created new artworks and interacted with the 120 other artists from 20 countries.
On February 25th at 7pm, Schevers and James will present an artist talk and slideshow of their experience at the Quadra Community Centre (upstairs room 3).
The friendly people of Pulau Ketam showed tremendous hospitality to all the artists. Hundreds of school aged children volunteered to help make the festival a great success. Artists from other Asian countries invited the participants to social events at their respective studios - all housed in the many large temples on the island. Come hear more about the festival and the amazing culture of this unique island community where there are no cars - only bicycles, scooters and boats.
