A FOODSAFE LEVEL 1 certification course is coming up at the Quadra Island Community Centre, offered at a fraction of the price thanks to an Islander giving back the community!

We all know that Quadra Island has raised some very exceptional human beings along the way and our Foodsafe instructor is no exception. We are very excited to welcome home our own Gethsemane Luttrell, who will be teaching a Foodsafe course at the Quadra Island Community Centre on Friday April 28th. In her position as the Regional Manager for Vancouver Island Environmental Public Health Services she gets to choose one opportunity a year through her work role to give back by volunteering in a community and she chose to give back to her own Quadra community where she was raised! Thanks to her support the Community Centre is able to offer a Foodsafe course for the community at a fraction of the cost of what participants would normally pay.

Here is a little bit about this wonderful person giving back to the Quadra community: Born and raised on adjacent islands, Maurelle and Quadra Island, Gethsemane has a strong connection with nature and community. Growing up on a remote west coast island inevitably provided Gethsemane with a broad marine background, which led to a start in her career with the Canadian Coast Guard. Her passions for science, environment and helping people has guided her down the path to Environmental Public Health. Gethsemane completed a bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Victoria; and, completed her bachelors of Technology in Environmental Health at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Gethsemane completed her practicums with Vancouver Island Health Authority in Powel River and with Health Canada in Vancouver. Gethsemane’s work as an Environmental Health Officer with Health Canada and as an owner/operator of an Environmental Health Consulting company provided her with a broad range of experience in occupational health, drinking water, food safety, communicable disease control and much more.

Her biggest passion of all is her young son, who keeps her very busy! They enjoy many outdoor activities together, especially anything that has to do with the ocean or mountains and of course very regular visits home to her beloved Quadra Island.
The Community Centre is so grateful to have the opportunity to work with Gethsemane! If you are interested in registering for this upcoming FOODSAFE Level 1 course please contact the Community Center by phoning 285-3243 or emailing:
