On Monday June 9 about five hundred salmon fry – young salmon about half as long as your little finger – were introduced to Quadra Island's Salmon Enhancement pond. They hail from the Quinsam Hatchery in Campbell River, and they'll be spending the next eleven months in their adoptive home before being released into select waterways on our island. Want to know more about these plucky little travellers? Visit the Quadra Island Salmon Enhancement Society's display in the Extension Centre on Hyacinthe Bay Road.
The Extension Centre will be open from 10 to 4 on Saturday and Sunday during the Garden Tour. Summer hours, July 4 through August 31, are Fridays through Sundays, 10 to 3.
QISES Extension Centre is located on Hyacinthe Bay Road, about 6.5 km from West Road.
From Quinsam to Quadra, with best wishes for fishes.
