Gentlemen: No one at the gumboot is trying to stop discussion, or direct the flow of ideas in any particular direction ...political or not. To the contrary, all are welcome to share their perspectives, thoughts and ideas (indeed, that is why we set the website up in this interactive format!).
You are free to comment, or indeed write your own articles to provide another perspective .... we just ask that all submissions be civil in nature - and that includes refraining from the use of expletives within posts, and from name-calling. Several recent comments have included both of these unnecessary elements, and hence have been edited in accordance with our Contents Policy.
To reiterate, the pertinent sections of the Contents Policy read as follows: thegumboot.ca is an open medium where community members are free to post whatever, within reason! [..however..] No profanity, slander, sexual content, or exploitation of children—either in text or images—will be tolerated. Similarly, attacks on a person’s character and racist remarks will not be permitted on the site.
Is that so hard to grasp?

Yep, ideas like "Mr" Rourke's are definitely one-sided in that he just can't seem to find anything jolly to say about living in a war-ravaged world. Gosh, it just makes you want to give your head a shake! Concepts like peace as the only viable path to our planet's survival, and an end to the tyranny of oppressor and oppressed, obscenely rich and desperately poor – apparently those are offensive ideas indeed to people of a right-leaning disposition.
But to the person who took such umbrage at Dwayne's article, you really shouldn't get your knickers in a knot, sir – after all, the practitioners of peace and justice in our troubled world tend to get themselves shot more than they tend to stay in political office. Perhaps this is reassuring if you can't imagine a world without conflict, because at the end of the day it's what you bank on.
I'm betting my bag of marbles on people who are fearless enough to act for peace, to push for something outside the box of our human limitations... and who are brave enough to let their children think for themselves.
