Thank you, Tom B, for passing this on:
Some of Quadra's local beaches have been re-opened for shellfish, even though much of Cortes remains closed. So, shellfish aficionados – before you harvest and pig out, check the DFO websites or phone the fish line! Here are the coordinates:
You can call toll free 1-866-431-FISH (1-866-431-3474)
or go to: http://www-ops2.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca

PSP
Comment by Shelley Mackie on 9th July 2008
PSP is to be taken very seriously. I was afflicted by this a few years ago and it is a very scary illness. I basically spent the night in CR emergency waiting to see if I would need to be intubated or not. I never want to experience it again. It starts with a numb tingling mouth and lips and then progresses over the next 8 - 12 hours before it settles down. I wasn't able to swallow properly, yawn or blink for hours. It is nasty. The next few days feel like the worst hang over possible. I hope no one ever has to experience this. I have great respect for PSP and the warnings. I got this from eating shell fish on Quadra so it is possible.
