Quadra Recreation Society
2nd Annual Quadra Community Centre Piñata Workshop & Exhibit
Exhibit at QCC July 21st – August 22nd
Residents of Quadra, it is time to face a fact: everybody loves piñatas. Accept it – you've always wanted to make one, colourful and mirthful, swinging joyously from the ceiling, but I bet you never have. Well your opportunity has arrived.
Come join us this July and make the piñata that you've only dreamed about until now. There are no rules, no restrictions, and no themes! You can think big, or think small, think natural or even supernatural, and make your piñata however you want with the help of our expert builders (Hanna & Sioux). As long as it has a two inch hole at the top, and at least two reinforced points from which to hang, then it's ready for the exhibit.
During the exhibit, visitors to the QCC will view and vote on the Piñatas. There will be a staggering amount of curious categories ranging from 'best use of colour' and 'most structurally complex' to 'most west coast' and 'most baffling'. Each ballot costs $1. Also, if you absolutely fall in love with any particular construct of paper and glue, you may want to participate in the Piñata silent auction. Just remember to keep checking in on your bid! First priority in keeping the Piñatas does always go to the creators, though. They did create them, after all. All of the proceeds from the silent auction and the ballots will go towards the new Blenkin park playground.
The workshop costs only $10 and the dates are: Monday July 14th (noon – 2 p.m.), Wednesday July 16th (noon – 1 p.m.), Thursday July 17th (noon – 1 p.m.) and Friday July 18th (noon – 2 p.m.). Remember to pre register at 285 – 3243. If you make your own Piñata at home, feel free to drop it off at the community center between July 14th and 18th. At last! Piñatas!

Pinatas rule!

I'm exceedingly grateful to all the parents, kids and teens who participate in making these beautiful, colourful, creative pinatas! The sense of accomplishment and pride in the pinatas' creators is right up there, in my books, with the splash of colour and fun these delightful sculptures add to our community....
