Strathcona Regional DistrictTemporary Industrial Use Permit for the We Wai Kai NationThis advertisement serves as official notice that the Strathcona Regional District board will be considering a Temporary Industrial Use Permit (TIUP) application on behalf of the We Wai Kai Nation (Cape Mudge Band) pursuant to section 921 of the Local Government Act. The board meeting will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Campbell River Maritime Heritage Centre located at 621 Island Highway, Campbell River, BC starting at 10:00 am.
In light of this application, the public is invited to an information meeting to be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Cape Mudge Recreation Hall on We Way Road, (5 minutes south of Quathiaski Cove) on Quadra Island beginning at 7:00 p.m. Copies of the application and related information may be viewed at this meeting, at
www.strathconard.ca or at the regional district offices located at 600 Comox Road, Courtenay, BC between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays from Thursday, July 17, 2008 until Wednesday, July 30, 2008.
If issued, the TIUP would be valid for a two year period and allow for the establishment of a +/- 63.8 hectare (157.6 acre) aquaculture investigative use for scallop farming in the unsurveyed Crown foreshore or land covered by water being part of the bed of Sutil Channel, Sayward District, lying southeast of Rebecca Spit Provincial Park (ILMB File No. 1411207). Anyone who believes the application will affect their interest will be given an opportunity to speak at the regional board meeting on July 31, 2008.
