Quadra Island walk-on ferry commuters have successfully completed their second week of protest against the never-ending fare increases by BC ferries.
The latest round of increases was so outrageous that it made their discount fare rate higher than the cost of taking a water taxi.
Up to 30 walk-on Quadra Island commuters have been using the Discovery Launch water taxi service which is conveniently located in the same marina as the ferry. We have scheduled taxi runs from Campbell River to Quathiaski Cove at 0430 p.m. and 0525 p.m. Monday through Friday except holidays. The price is $5.00 each and bicycles are welcome.
The taxi service is very comfortable, gets you home earlier, not affected by delays and you'll be supporting a local business instead of a heartless corporation.
If more commuters start using this service, soon we'll be able to schedule other runs and perhaps with more frequency as well.
Let's send a strong message to BC ferries that enough is enough.
