Press release: Whittingham Breaks World Record by Pedaling to 82 MPH
Battle Mountain, Nevada—On Thursday, September 18, Sam Whittingham of Quadra Island, BC, smashed his previous human powered vehicle world-record by pedaling his homebuilt, recumbent speed bicycle to 82 miles per hour, or 132 KPH, on flat ground.
In so doing, the 36 year old owner of Naked Bicycles and Design, and resident of Quadra Island captured, after over fifteen years of toil and training, the coveted $25,000 Decimach Prize, a longstanding reward for the first human being to go 0.10 mach, or one-tenth the speed of sound, under their own power.
Thank you to everyone who made this seemingly impossible feat possible.
Way to spin those wheels!

Hey, Sam and Andrea – got some pictures to share?
Love to post them on the Boot for all to see! There are some cool videos on YouTube of fine moments past, but let us know if there's anything in cyberspace about your latest!!!
Allright!

Way to go Sam! Not only did you break the record, but at 36 to boot.
You make Quadra proud.
