Join Sierra Quadra and I-Can (Island Climate Action Network) on Saturday, September 27th at 7:30 pm at the Community Centre for two movies and the launch of our joint project, The Q Bag. We'll be showing The Story of Stuff, a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. This short film exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all that stuff in your life.
The evening’s feature film will be The Battle of the Bag. This documentary gets a handle on the bag battle. From the big oil employees who brought the bag to America, to the Nobel laureate fighting for a bag ban, to the retired German school teacher who holds the world’s record for the most plastic bags, the film takes stock of this icon of convenience culture.
And then comes the unveiling of The Q Bag, Quadra's alternative to all those 32,000 bags our island stores give out every month! Come and see the future of shopping on Quadra, and find out how our community's going to walk away from all that plastic.
Doors open a 7, the first film begins at 7:30, and there's the usual array of munchies and goodies, tea and coffee. A fabulous door prize awaits one lucky filmgoer! And of course admission is free. (Donations will be accepted to purchase Q bags for our Food Bank families.)
