Sunday, November 2nd Quadra Community Centre Drop-in 1- 6pm
Donations for hall rental gratefully accepted.
Drop in to the Grass Roots Bag Bee and have fun creating something useful by hand while leaving a next-to-zero environmental footprint behind. Everyone is invited, novice and experienced sewers alike. Add your contribution to the phasing out of plastic bags on Quadra by making your own shopping bag, all materials provided.
We will be providing fabric, thread, and as much equipment as we can muster. Much of the fabric will be pre-cut to facilitate speedy bag making. If you have fabric of your own you want to use, feel free to bring it. There will be table space, pins and scissors for cutting. We'll provide three patterns: a basic rectangular bag with squared bottom and attached handles, a simple patchwork bag made from squares (more thrifty use of smaller fabric pieces), and a simple bag with integral handles.
If you have a sewing machine, bring it along. We will have sewing stations ready to plug into and go. There will be a limited number of sewing machines available for those without their own, and people on hand to assist with these machines. If time is tight, buzz by and pick up some fabric and a pattern to assemble at home.
There are several ways you can help out our small team of volunteers. We are looking for basic sewing machines people would be willing to leave in our care for the afternoon. There will always be a minimum of four people on hand to oversee.
We are also hoping to find people willing to come with their machines, skills and experience to help out for bit. Once you've made your bag(s) consider lingering for an hour to help other, less experienced baggers.
Be part of a local solution to plastic pollution and buzz down to the Bee on Sunday, Nov 2nd.
