Money Skills Workshop: Women – Take Control of Your Finances ©

When women take control of their finances they are taking control/charge of the rest of their life. Once a woman learns how to take charge of her finances, she will never want to go back to not being an active participant in her future.

With money playing such an important part of your daily and future life, in this time of high debt and low retirement planning, money matters deserve the same attention that you give to other tasks. Women spend more time planning a family vacation each year than they spend planning their finances.

Women are often deterred from investing because they feel it is an old boys club. Not true! All investment companies want to do business with you. And you are never too young nor too old to start taking an active interest in money matters.

On retirement, one in three women lives below the poverty level while the statistic is one in five for men. And women live longer than men on average, so they need their money to last for a longer period of time.

Women need to dispel the myth that someone – their father, husband, children, bank manager, the government – will take care of them. It is unrealistic to believe that your financial future will take care of itself.

Women research, listen and commit. They therefore make good investment and financial decisions. Decisions that will continually come into play over their lifetime.

There is a difference between making money and creating wealth. Wealth accumulation is a steady plan that takes place over time. Now is a good time to start.

Debbie Baier is a financial educator:
After 18 years of successful teaching, in and around Edmonton, a career change beckoned. I earned my Full Life Insurance and my Mutual Fund license.
I brought the passion and commitment that I felt for teaching to my financial services practice. I also brought my public speaking and professional writing skills to my new career.
Having recently moved to Quadra Island, I have not maintained my licensing. I continue to present seminars and coach clients. Note: I no longer sell product nor represent any product.
