Once again, The Quadra Island Harbour Authority has scheduled it's Annual General Meeting without advertising it to the community. Makes you wonder if they have something to hide? It also makes the meeting illegal, since non profit corporations are required to publicly advertise their AGM a minimum of two weeks beforehand. The meeting is scheduled for Sunday Dec.7th at 3pm. It will be held at the upstairs office in the Harbour building in Q Cove. I'm urging everyone who has an interest in either harbour (Q Cove or Heriot Bay) to make a point of attending. These harbours are managed on behalf of Small Craft Harbours branch of Fisheries and Oceans. They are here for the use of the entire community, not just a select group of individuals. The agenda will include elections of board members whose term has expired. If you are interested in joining the Harbour Authority you can apply to qihaisland.net. Dues are $1 and membership is open to " those persons interested in furthering the objects of the corporation and whose application for admission as a member has received the approval of the Board of Directors". (quote from the bylaws) The "objects of the corporation" have never been defined and the fact that the Board has the power to control who becomes a member, is probably illegal!
These harbours are an important part of our community. It's important that they are managed properly in a business-like manner for the benefit of everyone. Come to the meeting and decide for yourself!
