A ThresholdA new American president who has already declared his intention to escalate the war in Afghanistan, is about to take office. So sad that he not be affirming peace like his elder brother, the late Martin Luther King, Jr who declared:
I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.An AnniversaryExactly five years ago today, as a resident of Cortes Island, I filmed local observance of the grass roots "
Cross Canada Day Against War" event held in communities throughout the country. The event was in protest of the immanent US invasion of Iraq. As you will see in this video, however, it was much more than simply a protest against war; it was an affirmation of peace and goodwill.

The movie premiered a month later as part of Quadra Island participation in a global protest known as F15. According to BBC News, between six and ten million people took part in protests in up to sixty countries over the weekend of the 15th and 16th; other estimates range from eight million to thirty million.
