Dwayne Rourke
A Threshold

A new American president who has already declared his intention to escalate the war in Afghanistan, is about to take office. So sad that he not be affirming peace like his elder brother, the late Martin Luther King, Jr who declared:

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

An Anniversary

Exactly five years ago today, as a resident of Cortes Island, I filmed local observance of the grass roots "Cross Canada Day Against War" event held in communities throughout the country. The event was in protest of the immanent US invasion of Iraq. As you will see in this video, however, it was much more than simply a protest against war; it was an affirmation of peace and goodwill.

Watch WE THE PEOPLE here. (21 min)

The movie premiered a month later as part of Quadra Island participation in a global protest known as F15. According to BBC News, between six and ten million people took part in protests in up to sixty countries over the weekend of the 15th and 16th; other estimates range from eight million to thirty million.

I filmed the Quadra Island F15 event. Watch my movie WE THE PEOPLE II here. (8:33 min)

Only have a minute to spare? Watch WALK FOR PEACE here. (1:00 min)
Talk is cheap.

So Paul, we are closing in on completion of Obama's first year in office. What say you now about his intelligence and compassion?

Personally, I think he puts a smiling face on fascism.

I don't know what Dwayne has been smokin' but he has obviously not been paying attention to what President Obama has been saying about the wars that he has inherited from "Shrub" and his buddies. Or maybe it's just an opportunity to "spout off"! The USA finally has a person at the helm who has intelligence and the compassion to match. I say give him a chance to get started with his massive tasks before you start bad mouthing him!
