Welcome to Sierra Quadra on the Gumboot!
SQ began in the fall of 1997 with a dozen people sitting around a table talking about environmental issues affecting our island. The issues called for a strong environmental voice, and after some fact-finding it was decided that the Sierra Club of BC – with its focus on activism and successful lobbying, and its longstanding reputation – was a good fit. In February of 1998 Sierra Quadra formally came into being, and has had a big presence in the community and the region ever since.
In this section we'll bring you our current offerings of presentations, events and films. We'll bring attention to local issues of environmental interest and concern. And we'll talk about what our partners and allies are up to on the front lines of environmental activism and meaningful change.
As a registered group of the Sierra Club of BC, we support the Club's mandate to value and defend BC’s wild places and species, within the urgent context of climate change.
We support their advocacy for a rapid shift away from fossil fuels to a low carbon, equitable economy.
And we support their reliance on science-based research and peaceful, democratic means to advocate for change.
